In brief
The appellant married Kalavati in 1958 and on the night of 9 April 1959 the couple slept in their bedroom with the doors bolted from inside; at about 3-3.30 a.m. she cried out that she was being killed, and when the door was opened after the village Mukhi arrived, she was found dead with 44 knife injuries and the appellant emerged with a blood-stained knife. About twenty days earlier he had written to his father-in-law to take his wife away because he did not like her, and the father-in-law had promised to fetch her by Chaitra Sudi 1 — the murder occurred on the night before that date.…
