In brief

Henry Golak Nath died in 1953; his son, daughter and granddaughters succeeded to his lands in Punjab. On 22 January 1962 the Financial Commissioner, Punjab, in revision, declared 418 standard acres and 9¼ units in their hands to be surplus under the Punjab Security of Land Tenures Act, 1953, read with section 10-B. In two companion petitions, other landholders were affected by the Mysore Land Reforms Act, 1961 (as amended in 1965), which fixed ceilings on holdings and conferred ownership of surplus land on tenants.…
