In brief
Glaxo's Aligarh factory declared a lockout in May 1977 which was lifted on 13 May; on the same day some workmen struck work and allegedly obstructed those reporting for duty. On 27 May 1977 the second respondent and nine striking colleagues allegedly boarded a bus chartered by the company exclusively for 'loyal workmen' and, at various points along the Anupshahr-Aligarh road and elsewhere en route, abused, beat and threatened those workmen, snatched property and extracted promises that they would not work during the strike.…
