We allow the appeal setting aside the order of the High Court and restoring the order of the trial court. Considering the fact that the sentence awarded is the statutory minimum for the offences we find no reason to tinker with the same.

The complainant, an Authorized Ration Dealer, was required to have the 'Abstract' of changes in ration cards verified by the Revenue Inspector and countersigned by the Taluk Supply Officer. The accused, the TSO concerned, twice refused to countersign and, as alleged in the complaint made orally to the Vigilance Dy.S.P. (PW17) in the presence of two independent witnesses, demanded Rs.500/-. A trap was laid; the complainant handed the marked Rs.500/- note to the accused in his cabin, and the note was recovered from the accused's shirt pocket, his left hand and the pocket turning pink in the test solution.…
